The problem with pride in prison is that so many guys in here are proud for the wrong reasons. Racial pride is number one, or some other gang- or group-related pride. Or pride in their criminal life. Incessant bragging is always on display, despite that where you are now should give you an indication that your life, so far, doesn’t have much to illicit any bragging. I’m always instantly on guard when someone tries immediately to brag or impress me with stuff like this. Set your goals higher. You want to have something to be proud about, change your life. Get educated. Learn a language. Fix things with your family. Spend your time productively. Being proud of your reputation in prison as a “solid” guy is worth exactly zero, and it isn’t going to do anything for you in the real world. And it isn’t going to do anything for your personal growth.
