All too often, it’s of the wrong sort. Many times I’ve ran into guys, or met them for the first time, and they immediately start bragging about their exploits in the prison world: they beat this person’s ass, they called out this person for being a piece of shit, they called this officer a punk, etc. But these are the types of things we should learn to be ashamed of. We should feel pride in productive things, like getting a GED or some other education, or learning a language, or helping someone, or fixing a relationship we ruined out there on the streets. We should be proud of our positive accomplishments. Most of all, we should get to the point where we are proud of changing and becoming the man we are today. Not the bullying, irresponsible thug that we used to be.

Being in prison is almost like having a badge of honour these days. There is no fear, no respect, nothing.
