Chillin’ at The Zendo, by Jennifer Warren

Share

Hello and Namaste` to all. Yes, that means everybody reading this right now and everybody else on the planet and the universe regardless of whether they are aware of the existence of this blog. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Spirit currently assuming the form of a petite, 45 year old redhead named Jennifer.

Some of you may already have questions at this point. You may be thinking “zendo- what in the heck is a zendo?” Others of you who already know what a zendo is might be asking “why does she call it a zendo- doesn’t she know where she is? Is she insane, perhaps, out of touch with reality?”

I can only respond this way the rumors of the demise of my mental faculty since being incarcerated six years ago are grossly exaggerated. Yes, I know precicely where I am and what brought me here. I am not currently in denial about my present circumstance nor am I doped up on Thorazine. And yet, I maintain this place is my zendo, or ashram, as was suggested by the late Bo Lozoff, author of the highly acclaimed “We’re All Doing Time”. Put another way, this has been a refuge from a hectic world- a place of healing and growth.

I will be leaving this place in a little over a year, and it will be bittersweet, I must say. Between then and now I hope to share what I have learned about the twin disciplines of yoga and Buddhism, laugh with you and learn from you too. If you tend to pee when you laugh you might want to take the necessary precautions before we continue on this journey:-)

With that said, I wish you all love and blessings on your own personal paths until we meet again, which I hope will be very soon!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Warren

  1. Hi Jennifer, great to read your work here! I would love to know more about why you consider yourself to be in a zendo or an ashram? What about your unique circumstances make this a site for spiritual growth? Would love to hear more of your thoughts on this. Keep up the great work, I always love reading your writing!

  2. Dearest Jennifer,
Of course you’re an excellent writer! It’s clear to me now that your were/are probably smarter than all of the rest of us combined back in the old days.
I hope we get to meet again soon as well.
    Much love
    Jim A.

    • Jim- to hear from you after all this time and in this way is amazing!!! (Yes, I believe the occasion merits three exclamation points, thank you very much.) Just been released this week to my home in Seaside CA and can now check my comments more easily, so hopefully you continue to check in from time to time and will read this. Thank you for your kind words- rest assured I am very happy now and very much changed!

      Namaste,

      Jennifer
