INSTITUTIONALIZED?

Share

After more than 18 years in prison, I’m at the one-year mark. My entire adult life has been behind bars, and when I get released next October, I’m going to be able to experience everything I’ve missed out on. And I’ve had discussions with people about how I’m going to adjust. My thought process is generally this: Yes, there are going to be challenges, and yes, there is going to be a pretty big adjustment period. BUT, the big “but,” all of the changes are going to be GOOD. All of the weight and stress of prison is going to be gone. There is nothing that is going to get worse when I’m released; everything will be better. So while I do have some nervousness, I’m really not worried about “adjusting.” I’m going to adjust to freedom like crazy. 🙂
