America! America! America! by: Mr. Davon Motley Sr.

Land of the free, home of the brave, established justice, created a more perfect union… it sounded wonderful when “our founding fathers” created the constitution and the bill of rights. I mean of course it would in those days right? What went wrong if you don’t mind me asking??? What is the root of all evil??? Wheres the justice in forcing people out of their native land and forcing people into a country where there not from?? Is this perfect union a union in which everyone owns slaves and watches a country be built on the backs people whose being oppressed? Can you imagine being beaten, starved, raped, degraded, and forced to live somewhere you fear you can be killed at any moment? Fast forward to present day and through time things has improved but at who’s expense. Those who came from families who owned slaves and was able to so called pave a way for movements and financial ventures that propelled “the united states” into the front runnings against other countries remain in power. In 2018 politics run every aspect of our lives. Whether your black, white, brown, yellow, tan, green, blue, red or purple it doesn’t matter because nothings transparent. Racism still exist in america at a stunning and alarming rate. Sexism has rocked our society and exposed men and women in the workplace. The “upper class” are prejudice towards people of “poverty” and the “lower class”. Its also the other way around but it all stems from how this country was founded and built. Till this day people that’s living a lifestyle that’s full of hardships and financial adversity are the ones who keep everyone else rich. These people are poor African-Americans, poor Caucasian, poor Latino- Americans, or poor immigrants from far away countries other than Mexico and close by islands. With all these groups of people struggling and fighting to survive is this “great” land we were bound to turn on each other. It was by design for us to fail and not prevail and become successful. Its not impossible but its more likely that death or prison is where majority of the lower class and those in extreme poverty will end up. Why is this a reality for someone living in the “greatest country” in the world? With me being in prison and actually reflecting on my life I realize the mistakes I made and how I need to change for the better. I know how to go about finding a job or starting a small business. That still doesn’t hide the fact that a blindfold is wrapped around so many others eyes and are being lead to believe that we all are equal with equal opportunities. Every aspect of life has its prejudices and we blind to these facts. Health care, education, insurance, home ownership, employment, entertainment, sports, news, media, and socially everything is controlled someway somehow. The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor, welcome to America!! Stay positive people and open your eyes to the lies that’s being told. Look at the “leader” of this country. Where did our moral and ethical values go? What happened to respect, integrity, humility and being somebody the youth and kids look up to? Is this suppose to be yet another time in Americas history that we look back on and say “We should have done better”? America has many problems that because of the way its foundation was built will take time and care to repair. They say you judge a country on how they treat their prisoners and those in poverty. I ask you.. How would you judge America???
