UNFORCED ERRORS by Timothy Kelly

Share

The morning started off with a good breakfast. The only reason it was good was the company I kept. I ate with two friends let’s call one Dylan, a 90210 look alike and a friend we’ll call NICKYVER because he can fix or find anything.

My original plan for the morning was to go lift weights and work on this bird chest. Dylan had asked me to go shoot some hoops instead because it was the only time we were going to be out of the unit for the day. So I obliged.

As we were walking to the court, Nickyver asked us to play pickle ball. Dylan wasn’t really wanting too but i think he did it because I love to play the game.

We have only played together once prior to this s morning. He doesn’t play much but is a natural athlete and has picked the game up easily.

So we play the first game. Right now I’m a little rusty. I haven’t played in a few years. But when I do, I don’t lose much. Dylan tells me to be aggressive and he’s got my back. So we’re playing and I make a few unforced errors. Dylan is displeased and says to stop making unforced errors. Of coarse I would never try to make a mistake while playing any sport. I’m a winner.

I make another unforced error. There was no communication with my friend Dylan who was waiting patiently to make the kill shot. Instead I went to his side of the court and tried to to kill the ball with a backhand. It went into the net on our side.

Needless to say we lost our first game of the day 11-9. And again it was my unforced errors that lead to our demise.

My friend Dylan walked off the court saying “I’m done with this game” with a tone in his voice that said it was my fault. My friend does not take to losing well. I don’t either but I know after a loss which do happen on occasion that I’m going to win the next game. And I have a winning record during my incarceration. I will take you to the top of the mountain if you play with me.

I spoke to Dylan after the loss to Nickgyver and his partner and he said he was done playing with me. I sat and stewed on it for a while and told him I was a little crunchy at his response. I told him if I’m your buddy and you don’t like doing something I’m going to do it anyway. I’m going to go down with the ship. That’s how I roll. He said I make valid points but its still up in the air.

I’ll end this blog with the thought that I will be able to play the game with my friend in hopes to eliminate the UNFORCED ERRORS.
