I don’t know if you have been watching the news about the homeless problem in Seattle or not. But its been a big problem in our city.
Just recently Seattle has tryed fixing the problem. In downtown Seattle they have rounded up a lot of the homeless from places like THE JUNGLE and other areas under the via-duct.
I just saw on the news today that they have relocated a lot of the homeless to the campus of the University of Washington college.
CI is taking a role in all of this. They have taken on a project to build little houses for the homeless.
Right now that’s what I am involved in at CI. CI has designed a collapsible 8’x8′ shack that sleeps 4.
For the last 2 weeks we have been working on the prototype of this tiny little house, or as we all call it; A little shack.
Its been a little hectic around CI with the washplant being replaced for the powdercoat system and this project going on at the same time.
A lot of people have been involved in this. From the designing aspect of it, the engineering team drawing it all up on computers using the C.A.D. program. The business office to order metal and parts among other stuff for the projecct. To the actual building of it, metal fabrication and the metal assembly crew.
It is a giant task. In all these areas are inmates that run them. A few CI staff, but inmates have done most of the work.
Today was a lot of the assembling and welding of some of the last few parts.
We all thought that a news crew was comming in to film us put some of this together. But no one ever showed up to do that.
I thought we were going to be on TV today! Oh well maybe next time. Its not the first time I will have been filmed in prison.
The last two times I was being interviewed was about the dog program and Freedom Tails.
Its kind of an exciting time and again I am doing something for the community and being a positive influence in society.
