MOTHER’S DAY had always been a special time for my mom and and myself.Being her firstborn gave me a leg up on those four other pretenders to my birthright…..
Every MOTHER’S DAY it was the priority of my day to be the first of my siblings to call Mom.I would wait until 8am,knowing that my brothers and sisters don’t get up that early on Sunday morning. So when she would answer the phone we played the same game, I would ask her:”Am I the first to call Mom?”and she always answered the same way:”Of course you are honey you’re my firstborn after all aren’t you?” Then we would laugh and get on with our phone call, with me asking what she was doing on her MOTHER’S DAY?
On MOTHER’S DAY 2013,I went about my normal production of calling my mom, collect, at 8am(what a terrible burden I put on that lovely lady by being in prison),and we danced the same dance and once again I asked her what she was doing on her special day?
She said they were staying in because her back was bothering her,and that my sister Jenny was taking her to the Doctor on Monday.
Let me digress for a moment… in 2012 my mom had had a heart attack;and what happened in the intrum was that my sister Jenny and my brother Scott went to battle over what kind of treatment Mom should receive, and where she would receive it.Needless to say Jenny won out.So mom had an operation-she had 5 veins removed from the back of her leg to do a quadruple heart bypass, and one to replace her cartiroid artery in her neck…
A few months later she told she wished she would have just died! Of course I called my sister Jenny as soon as I got off of the phone. We all knew that the theropy was taxing on her,but none of us wanted her to die!
For many years, prior,my mother had been buying me reference material to make my studying more complete;both for personal endeavors and day room communal studies with other inmates. Even so I could never get her to make a personal commitment to Christ Jesus as savior.
So after she said she wished she had simply died when she had the heart attack;I began. a campaign to convert my mother to Christianity with all vigor.
To shorten a complicated story, suffice to say,by 2013,my mother had been evangelized to the nth°…
Later, in the formentioned week ,I had a strong uncsion from the Holy Spirit to call my mom again. So on Friday I called and got no answer! This was highly suspicious, since her and my stepfather are were quite old.
So I tried calling my sister Jenny and she answered the phone call all out of breath. Quickly she told me,”You’re lucky you got ahold of me, for I just ran in to change my clothes!”Then she blurted out:”MOM IS GOING TO DIE TODAY!”
It seemed as if all the air was sucked out of the dayroom!
I said,”Mom told me she said only had a sore back!”Jenny said,”THE WHOLE TRUNK OF MOM’S BODY IS SO INIDATED WITH CANCER THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR HER,AND SHE IS
Then my sister said,”Mom had a message she wanted me to give you.”I asked,”what did she say?”Jenny said,”Mom told me to tell you that she was’ seeing Jesus!’ ”
My sister then said she told mom,”NO STAY WITH ME!”I then said,”Don’t try and stop Mom from going to Jesus, Jenny!”
She told me”it is too late anyway!”I told her”I think not,I believe God was right on time”.
So the last words I heard from my Mom’s mouth on that fainted MOTHER’S DAY was,”I love you too, honey!”
Neither of my two sister’s, or brother, could stand being there when Mom passed on.So they downloaded all of Elvis’s music and put it on a player and had it playing by her hospital bed(Elvis was her favorite musician).
Instead of being there my sisters had both of their oldiest daughters standing in for them.
As Victoria sat on one side of Grandma, and Faith on the other…
one week after MOTHER’S DAY,at 7:05am,Elvis was singing “Love me tender”.Victoria, who is an RN,said” the clouds parted on that cloudy day,and a bolt of light shined on Grandma’s bed,and she breathed her last breath!”
I believe my mom is laying on Jesus’ bosom as I write this!
GOD BLESS YOU MOM!
IN HIS LOVE,
