It really says something about Republican voters, that Donald Trump is doing so well in the polls. As wonderful as it may sound to them to have someone who’s “not afraid to speak his mind,” I think that misses the point. When what comes out of your mouth is offensive nonsense and other assorted garbage, you should think twice. All of his nativist fear-mongering about immigration, and this incessant talk about having to “beat” China is just ridiculous. Donald Trump is a smart guy who says incredibly dumb things.

But this is America. This is what so may people want. Style over substance, emotional reponses over reason, populist jingosim over reasoned argumentation. The presidential election may as well be another reality TV show.
