PSEUDO-INTELLECTUALISM IN PRISON

Share

It’s part and parcel. Yesterday I was sitting at a table where two guys were talking about ancient alien astronauts or whatever the latest show on the History channel is touting. I tried to bring in some actual history and anthropology, but it wasn’t wanted. The same day, I listened to two guys saying that because a certain horror movie had said “based on a story,” they believed a doll was really possessed by a ghost. Really.

This is not about mocking someone for their choice of entertainment; it’s about a method of thinking. It’s about the wilfull denial of rational thought not just in these matters, but in all of everyday life. And it’s a vital issue here in prison. It’s difficult to make improvement in one’s life if the tool necessary for it (your mind) is rusty and clogged by gunk.
