It’s always amusing to see this conservative scolds on TV, like Bill O’Reilly talk about how the young people these days are so terrible. He points out some awful event, like an alleged gang rape at Spring Break, and says this is indicative of how kids are callous today (not like in HIS day, of course). But the facts never support this. Crime rates are lower than ever, teen drug use and pregnancy are lower than ever, teen STDs are lower than ever. Kids, despite how old people complain about them being disconnected from reality with all of their “machines,” are actually more politically active than ever, BECAUSE of those machines and social media.
Old people, again: Listen to Bob Dylan’s “The Times they are a’Changin.” It’s instructive.
