Today I will remember:
The system. The oppressor. The prison officials, “They”, are the nine-to-five criminals. I am state property, a pawn in their game. A fantasy, a test subject. Their entertainment. A salve for their prosperity. Today I will remember: “The System” can never “buy” my dignity. They can never take away my beauty. When the other prisoners will-power folds, my principles and convictions will stand bold. Today I will remember: They can’t take away my freedom to choose. The game they have been playing, they will lose. Â Redemption will be for the prisoner, the consequence will be for the oppressor.
Today, I will remember I am a prisoner of many regrets. A man who holds the key to contentment. My ship voyages through life’s troubled sea, to the threshold of forgiveness and peace. Today, I will remember
When and after I have reached that shore, my spirit may wander forevermore. My soul will find its place to be at rest for “The System” will lose their game of chess. This creed evolved from personally witnessing and experiencing the manipulation of officers between the races of inmates, stirring up and instigating violence, the daily abuse of authority, dehumanizing, belittling, harassing, depriving and provoking the incarcerated. The Ohio Prison system beckons a convoluted mechanism allowing staff to behave towards prisoners as they wish, off record.
