I know everyone in life makes mistakes—some are minor, some are serious, and some are life-altering. What I have learned throughout my experience in life is that no matter how gruesome the mistake is, there is always a lesson in it. Therefore, it is important that you learn from your mistakes and do not repeat them. Part of life is falling flat on your face but getting back up and being stronger. Do not allow your past mistakes to dictate your principles and values. It is important that you take ownership of your mistakes, learn from them, and grow. Sometimes your life can feel like a rollercoaster, but once you are able to find your true identity, you become free, and your life will now serve a purpose. Change isn’t easy at all, but sometimes, in order to grow in life, you have to change your surroundings, friends, and most importantly, your attitude. Try to be open-minded to challenge your belief system. Sometimes our belief systems are built on false premises. Whether it is negative or positive energy, what you put into the universe, you will attract back into your life; that’s called the law of attraction. No matter what you’ve been through in life or the obstacles you’ve overcome, you can make a difference in this world. Who would think that someone like me, who came from a troubled background and has hit the lowest point of my life, would want to make a difference in this world? I wouldn’t be who I am today if I didn’t fall flat on my face, but I’m stronger now, and yes, I have found my purpose in life.
I now work in the prison school as a tutor (teacher’s aide). I’ve realized how much of an impact I have on the youth. I know how much education has played a role in my personal growth, and it’s why I try to make them take their education more seriously. I try to use my experience to show them that I once walked in their shoes and how education has given me a different perspective on life. I myself came from a troubled background and had to overcome many obstacles to be who I am today. I have first-hand knowledge of the challenges our youth face by being constantly surrounded by negative influences. I know how a child can become conditioned to view criminal behavior as “normal” and how peer pressure can lead a young mind to make bad, even life-altering, decisions. Every day, I get to not only help youth try to receive their GED but also mentor them. Never give up in life, no matter what you’ve been through or gone through. If you have a story to tell that can impact someone’s life, do so. Make a difference in the world.
A Poem by Hector Torres
he sit alone trying to find his way, he screams for help, but no one is listen, he looks for guidance but no is guiding, he is tired, he is afraid, were are is friends? he realize he went the wrong way, he is lost but is determined to find his way, so let him be ,let him cry, let him fall, let him climb, he’s traveling, he’s moving mountains, he’s healing, the pain the suffering is all worth it, yes, let him be, let him cry, let him fall, it’s the only way he’ll find his way, it is dark, he’s scared, he’s lost, he can’t find his way, he lost it all, his friends, his love ones, his freedom, but though the struggle, through the pain he was able to be true to himself, he cried, he fell , he suffered, look at him now, he’s standing strong, so let him be, let him cry, let him fall, do you see him now, he crawled, he moved mountains, he is healed, he has awoken, he has found his way, he has landed on a new universe were there love, there is piece, his life now has a meaning!!!
