People who say they’re not bigots, but oppose gay marriage for religious reasons, don’t make any sense to me. If you are trying to keep strangers from getting married, even by voting, what do you call it? And who cares if it’s for religious reasons? All the religious defenders of terrible things like slavery and burning “witches” used to say the same thing. Then there are those who say, “I have nothing against gay Americans, I’m just following what my religion says; it’s for God to judge.” Sure. This is not a way to wiggle out of judgment. You’re saying that whatever your god decides for homosexuals, burning in hell or whatever, you’re okay with. That IS judgment, so at least own it.
