Someone asked, “Why Taylor Swift?” I replied, “If she likes you, then it doesn’t matter who dislikes you.”
I have been locked up since the year 1991, over 33 years. I’ve never been on the internet, I’ve never surfed the web, and I’ve never used a cellphone. These things didn’t exist when I got locked up. Come to think of it, neither has the BankOne Ballpark (Chase Field), America West Arena (Talking Sticks), the Stadium, Tempe Town Lake, several cities like Anthem, San Tan Valley, and Queen Creek, and highways like the 101, 202, 303. The world that I knew is gone. No more payphones at every convenience store, bar, apartment complex, and gas station. No more shopping malls like Metro Center, Paradise Valley, Los Arcos, and Fiesta Mall. Plus, there’s so many new homes, buildings, and people in Arizona. What’s In and Out Burger? This new world I am so blessed. I have a surrogate family who not only helps me but loves and mentors me. And I love them dearly. Because of them, I’m more appreciative, I’m more grateful, and I’m more compassionate. Plus, I always want to listen and talk with them.
When someone does something that helps you, they are showing favor. With favor, there is no debt. Without favor from others, it is impossible for you to be a success in anything that you do. You need to care about other people to really want to help them. Especially, in today’s world.
I saw a preacher on late night TV, named Dr. Mike Murdock, who teaches prosperity. He said, “One day of favor is worth a thousand days of labor.” As a kitchen worker in prison, that hit me! He wasn’t talking about favors but having a real desire to help others without expecting anything in return. So, when you help others, you help yourself more than the other person. So, have you ever visited someone in prison? Ever wrote a letter or sent a card to another, or gave a little of your time to mentor someone? People need you!
I just read a quote by Robert Allen (a real estate and marketing guru) that says that your income is the average income of your 10 best friends. oh, no! That’s not good of most are inmates. Therefore, I need to seek out free-world friends who are successful doing what I want to do. It’s true, that I want Taylor Swift to help me become a good writer. She is one of the greatest writers. Writing is not only important to her, but she pays attention to details, to perfection, to spelling, to grammar, and to more grammar. Impossible you say? Maybe. But, by requesting her signed photo, she might read my blogs and give writing tips or suggestions. It’s worth a try.
