At Journey’s End by Tony Enis

Share

Once again, this bumpy road that is my life, has taken an unexpected turn. After so many dead-ends, I find myself almost afraid to hope; afraid to embrace these new, yet old, emotions. It is a fear born of the injustices done to my humanity and to my heart. So, do I dare to once more reach for that which always seems to be just out of my grasp? Do I dare to dream the impossible dream?

As my heart suffers from wounds not yet healed, I contemplate the risk of exposing it to even harsher wounding. But what is the worth of a heart if one fears losing it? Was it placed in my chest merely to send blood coursing through my veins? I think not. So, I must conquer my fear; I must risk the embrace, and know that the rewards of that risk are greater than they have ever been. My desire to know the warmth that is you compels me to do nothing less.

So I surrender myself to you; to your warmth; to your passion, and to your pain. In all of this I choose to share — if you will have me. The road we travel will be paved with patience and understanding. And at Journey’s End, we shall find that which our hearts most desire. We shall find . . . Love.
