For hundreds of years every culture that has been exposed to Biblical teachings have interpreted Revelation 13:18 according to their own circumstances and have applied the moniker “the Beast” to whoever it was that behaved as a totalitarian.
To most of Eastern Europe, Adolf Hitler was the Beast. In Italy, Benito Mussolini’s imperialist ideology was the driving force behind his vision of world conquest. His regime was so savage that every country they invaded the inhabitants refered to Mussolini and his army as Beasts. Let’s not forget Russia’s Joseph Stalin, who was hell bent on acquiring and maintaining complete control of all his country’s human and nautural resources. Stalin’s communist system was so brutal that it left parts of Russia utterly destitute. The poor and oppressed of Stalin’s Russia also gave him the nickname, the Beast.
Even in Roman Catholic ruled Europe, the various Popes at various times were viewed as being either the Anti-Christ or the Beast spoken of in the Book of Revelation. The most recent of the Popes being named was John Paul II.
Certain religious groups and organizations have gone so far as to regard certain Presidents of these United States as either the Anti-Christ or the Beast of Revelation meant to establish a New World Order and initiate World War 3.
Presidents such as Richard Nixon, George H. W. Bush, Barak Obama, and our current President Donald Trump has been added to the list. Can you see the pattern here? Any leader, be they political or religious, who’s policies and ideologies people disagree with are demonized and rejected. All sorts of derogatory epithets are attached to these individuals and their work is tarnished solely based on the publics opinion of them.
Here I’m going to share a completely different perspective of this Beast and its number as mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Remember that we are dealing with metaphors and symbols when it comes to Scripture. Hopefully this information will cause us to shift our focus off of others and begin to deal with the raging Beast within ourselves.
Our ancient Hebrew ancestors taught that we have 2 natures: 1. yechidah, or God-self 2. nephesh, or animal self. The yechidah is our higher nature, that part of ourself where every mitsvah (commandment) of Yahweh can be found. The nephesh is our lower nature, that part of ourself where every teshuqah (desire) can be found. Living in accordance with our yechidah, or God-self, makes us chasidim (godly men/women or saints). While living in accordance with our nephesh, or animal self, makes us behemot (beasts). “My heart grew embittered, my affections dried up; I was stupid and uncomprehending, a clumsy animal in Your (Yahweh’s) presence” (Psalm 73:21-22).
As behemot (beasts) our only concern is food, shelter, and procreation. When we are operating with this mindset, we are utilizing what’s called our mammalian brain. This is the portion of our brain that consists of the thalamus and limbic system. This is the center of our emotions, memories, and appetites. A life dominated by the mammalian brain is dominated by the pursuit of material things and the gratification of sexual urges.
Now as chasidim (saints) our main objective is to live as Yahweh here on Earth. When we are functioning on this level, we are unifying and utilizing all 3 of our brains. Yes, we have 3 brains! The reptilian brain, the mammalian brain, and the cerebrum. The cerebrum, or cerebral hemispheres, is the center of our higher brain functions such as sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
As mentioned before, the cerebrum consolidates the functions of all 3 brains which allows us to be conscious of the workings of our body and in some instances consciously direct certain processes of our body. In this capacity our moach (brain) is the All Seeing Eye as described by the ancients.
“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred threescore and six” (Revelation 13:18).
Sticking with the scientific theme, the number “666” is the atomic particle breakdown of the element Carbon. See, the atomic number of Carbon is 6. This means that it is composed of 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons. All life on this planet Carbon based.
Take he human body for example. Oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen make up the majority of elements foound in our body at 83%. Some of the remaining elements are Copper, Iodine, Sulfur, Iron, Nickle, Chromium, Nitrogen, Sodium, and Molybdenum. Even if you add up the atomic numbers of the 3 main elements of Oxygen – 8, Carbon – 6, and Hydrogen – 1 (8+6+1=15), then simplify the sum (1+5=6) , you come up with the number of the day Yahweh created Adam (humanity) on, “6” for the sixth day. Six is the number of man.
The example of Rav Yeshua (Lord Jesus) is for us to see how we are suppose to exhibit godliness and cultivate our faculties for a higher purpose. Sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste when directed with a God-mind can be portals through which the Power of Yahweh ceaselessly flows. But on the other hand the perversion of thoughts, uncontrolled emotions, and destructive actions can be viewed as the “mark of the Beast,” which we willingly accept by choosing to live according to our lower animalistic nature.
Piety or impiety? Saint or beast? Yahweh or Satan? We have to decide.
