Read Gal. 1:10
i have realized it will be times i will have to choose between God & pleasing those around me, for God’s ways are not man’s ways(Isa. 55:8-9). As important as it is to strive for good relations w/others, it is even more important to maintain a steadfast & obedient relationship w/Christ. Disobeying God to keep peace w/other people is never wise. Peace w/God is always paramount.
Jesus warned that obeying Him might cause division in our relationships (Matt.10:35-36). If Paul primary goal was to please others, he never would have become an apostle of Jesus Christ. Paul went completely against the wishes of his partners in order to obey Christ. At times, obedience to God sets family members & friends & those around us(especially in an environment like i’m momentarily in) at odds w/each other. When we follow Jesus lordship, our family & peers may misunderstand, or even oppose us, yet our obedience to God reflects our identity as His child. Jesus said that those who obey His Father’s will are His sisters & brothers(Luke 8:21). God does not intend to divide the home, but He places obedience before domestic harmony.
It is important to get alone in quietness w/God (solitude consecrated at times) so that we understand what pleases Him. The world’s thinking will mislead us more easily when we are not clear about what God desires. If the desire to appease others tempts us to compromise what we know God wants us to do, we should learn from Peter mistake when his heart was broken to know the servant girl opinion mattered more to him than the approval of his Lord. We got to determine that we will please our Lord regardless of the opinions of others. So if pleasing others is in contrast of pleasing God the i guess others will be very often & much disappointed.
