I’ve been through a very rough journey that has now led me to the end of a long road. I am a 33-year-old man that has been incarcerated since the age of 18. My incarceration has had tremendous rehabilitative effects that I am very humbled by, but proud of. I entered this journey as an illiterate youth. I now have completed various programs including my G.E.D (high school diploma equivalent), and a Diploma in Business Management. I have also done a lot of research and reading to expand my knowledge in the Business arena. I am completing my formal Business plan that I hope to one day utilize in the free world.
I have come to grips with, and fully comprehend, and take responsibility for the reckless, and ignorant decisions that I have made in the past. I am also aware that, despite my accountability for my wrongdoing, the past remains irreversible. It reminds me of a quote that says, “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it”-Unknown. Every day I try my best to work towards self-development. However, I honestly feel that in order for me to truly show my growth and metamorphosis I must be given an opportunity to prove it to all who have supported me over the years.
The time has come where I am eligible for release. I am scheduled to appear before the parole board in August 2020, and I am excited at the prospects of becoming a productive and outstanding member of society and my community. My sincere hope is that if released, I can become a mentor and motivational speaker. I would like to be able to speak to at risk youth via Churches, schools and Nonprofit organizations. My priority would be to encourage our youth not to walk the path so many black young men and women have gone down to their detriment.
I have seen the mercy of God firsthand, and the blessings that follow when we do what is right. I wholeheartedly wish that no one must go what I have gone through, but I can now say that I am a respectable, loving and caring man of honor and integrity.

Good luck on your parole hearing. I’ve been down that road myself. Just remember to put God First in everything you do. A lot has changed in fifteen years. But a lot has stayed the same. Remember you have to change people, places and things in your life if you plan on being successful. I wish you well and will be praying for you. Let me know what happens.
