A Few, by Shara Cooper

Some people are drawn to help little kids. Others love to assist older people. Still there are some that have the patience for the tweens, teens, and young adults.

Some people find a passion to help those homeless and displaced. Others love to care for veterans and animals. And then, there are some who enjoy counseling and working with the mentally and emotionally challenged.

There are a few, just a few, that hold
a passion and a fight for those who are incarcerated. There are a few who have compassion to remember and actively encourage those locked behind wire fences. There are few who have a vision and set a mission to help bring about real prison and sentence reform with the intent to give a second chance to those lost.

No, it is not popular. Neither is it at the top of anyone’s list to say “Hey, I love and fight for those incarcerated!”
Rather, it is downright a hard road to willingly travel, risky, and loaded with fierce critics who will unashamedly hate you simply because they hate the cause.

It is worth taking into consideration that the very same people incarcerated are the little kids that wish they had someone to be drawn to them with sincere care.
Many of those incarcerated are older people that are in dire need of just one person to assist them.
Indeed those incarcerated undoubtedly need folk in their lives with a bit of patience given to the tweens, teens, and young adults.
Talk about passion and love for the homeless, veterans, and animals…
Many incarcerated know not what passion and love feels like because no one ever took the time to shine such beautiful qualities in their lives.

For the brave few that have chosen this route to go fulfilling the purpose to help those incarcerated…I salute you.
You have chosen a road least traveled. A route unpopular. Yet, a journey that desperately needs a few good men and women to love, care for, be passionate about, fight for, be patient with, assist and help the hundreds of thousands of hurting souls lost to incarceration.
