Fire In Me, by Shara Cooper

There is a fire inside of me.
Trust, I have tried several times to put it out.
It burns hotter than I can stand at times.
A burning deep inside of my soul.
I despise it at times.
Too much for me to contain.
Frustration settles not knowing where to let it loose.
What am I to do with it all?
A question lingering still with no answer.
Dreams. Visions. Ideas.
Why won’t they stop. Just stop.
At times it is all too much to retain.
Irritation creeps in when my limits are made evident.
Witty ideas. Creative inventions.
Where are they all coming from?
Positioned to lead when I asked to follow and glean.
Pushed to lead the many who look upon to follow.
I long for times to simply be simple. Or should I say ‘normal.’
To go with the flow.
To not want anything more than what has already been given.
I reluctantly admit, that is simply not me.
Because there is a fire inside that burns with dreams and visions and ideas.
The fire is relentless. It just won’t die.
The fire continues to burn hotter as the years go by.
This fire won’t stop even when circumstances and people discourage me.
There is a fire inside of me.
Aaaaahhhh…I long for you to see.

  1. How powerful fire is! Fire shows the punishment of God for destruction of the evil; and for the sacrifices in the OT, God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). God also showed His presence to the Israelites by overspreading the tabernacle with fire. But, the fire is also a purification tool as used in preparing gold. The fire and intense heat causes the dross (impurities) to melt away so the gold is refined. (Proverbs 17:3). In the NT, Matthew 3:11 says that we will be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire. As we surrender our lives to our Sovereign, Holy God, the Holy Spirit teaches and purifies us (Titus 2:14, 1 Cor. 16:11). Fire cleanses and refines. May you bring honor to your Savior today! God s at work wherever we are.
