INMATE POEMS

“Not To Be Mistaken With” by Jennifer DeMott

“Not To Be Mistaken With”

I HATE you.

You disgust me
You are
repulsive.

Your existence
is full of loss
hate
pain and
death.

We have stood
in the same room but
we’ve never met.

You and I,
we will never be
friends.

People chase you.
You hold them
hostage.
You are a
padlocked basement.

You are a
murderer.

You are
foul and
unsavoury.
The thought of you
makes me
sick.

You are
tragedy and
disaster.

You are
deceitful.
People think you’re life but
you are
death.

Enemy,
you have been deceived too.
You think you’re winning but
you are
losing.
You think you’ve put my mother
and sister
to death
but really,
when you killed them,
you gave them life.

You are
ignominy.
You are
filth.
You are
dread,
revulsion,
repugnance.

You are no
heroine.
