Resistance by Matthew Epperson

What is it? What is the one thing that has its hook in your side, claws in your back, hold on your foot? It could be a multitude of things, and more than one: drugs, money, sex, exercising, self glorification, food, etc. There is a whole world out there devoted to our gratification. But why? Why is it that we give into these things? Perhaps, our vice isn’t as condemning as someone elses’. Maybe the consequences haven’t caught up to us yet? Whatever the case may be, there is a lesson to be learned about indulgence: Moderation or all out resistance.

Take the heroin addict. Surely there is no means of moderation with this wicked, life threatening drug, but what brought the person to using the drug will usually be found in the hands of no self control. Mostly, people do not start off using/abusing drugs at a hard core rate. Mostly, people do a harmless chemical that could be kept on a leash. But why? It feels good, right? Why stop? Why resist? Here is another lesson to be learned: No good thing worth having comes easily.

No matter what the vice may be, no matter how miniscule or childish it may appear, if we find ourselves in the moral battle of right and wrong with something we like doing, then it’s time to put an end to that vice. And don’t be mislead, IT IS HARD! Sometimes it feels impossible to stop. Seek help. Go find some support if you have to. You will learn a lot about yourself in these times of self denial, and what is refined in the fire comes out a precious metal. Don’t give up. Don’ quit. Don’t compromise. Stay true to yourself and believe that resistance is achievable. Take care everyone and enjoy the life that you have been blessed with.

Go see something live!
