CHANGES by David Bomber

Share

Considering the circumstances, I will never forget the events that dictated that a major change was about come to my life. One of those times was the day that I had witnessed my mother take her last breath and pass away. There I was, reeling and trying to cope from experiencing my loss when I received even more unexpected news.

It just so happened that I had received a phone call when I was on my way home from the hospital. It really wasn’t my intention to talk with anyone outside the family that day, but I took the call knowing that if I didn’t the party calling would just continuously call until I answered. That’s when she told me that she was pregnant with our child. When it came to that, I will be the first to admit that this news was not well received and I even hung up on her since I had already been hoodwinked with her crying wolf once before. However in the end, I was convinced that although one life had left this world, another one was getting ready to enter it and ultimately I would be responsible for him.

A couple of months after Damian was born, I once again found out unexpectantly that another major change was coming my way. I realized that when apparently my significant other’s hormones were way out of whack. Then again it wasn’t too hard to figure out that she was pregnant again after she had scared the bejesus out of some the mall’s patrons when she began screaming at the top of her lungs over what amounted to a simple discussion of what we were going to have for lunch. Of course the pregnancy test that she took the next morning confirmed my suspicions.

Needless to say, both Damian and Aaron are the two most memorable changes to occur in my life, which I have embraced wholeheartedly and unconditionally. For me, they are the driving force that both inspires me and motivates me to make changes. As far as that goes, the statue that I am working on changing not only affects just them or myself alone, but others as well. Indeed, our criminal justice system is seriously flawed, but collectively with a little bit of grit, determination, and will power we can improve it. We just need to make some changes.
