Summoning up your past and vividly reliving pinnacle moments again to put it into a collection of those moments for the world to read sounds challenging. One, because of accuracy, I would want to paint an image that is dead on factual and not misleading to my readers. Two, because of accuracy again, the reader might not find my history all that interesting. The biggest challenge would be having to possibly hurt someone I love out of accuracy. Sure, I would use fictitious names to represent the characters in my life, but who am I fooling? Once someone close to me, say my family, reads the memoir, they would depict themselves out in a heart beat, and since everyone has skeletons in their closets, it might be unhealthy to commence such brutal honesty. Third, because I have yet to achieve any success, it would be silly to embark on the history of my life with it ending in prison. LAME! Maybe after you all help me become a notable author, I’ll write that book, but until then, you’ll just have to read A Splendid Compromise when it comes out.
I’ve been reading the memoir, Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, and the things he admits are berserk. Sad, commical, and disgusting, the book is a #1 New York Times Bestseller, and now a movie, which I haven’t seen. I assume his surrogate family has read it and, after reading what I have, I wonder what they think? The book is boldly confident, so in reading, I feel Burroughs has painted an image of exactly how he feels towards these characters. It’s wonderfully inspiringto say the least, and I have less than one hundred pages left that I’m sure will rattle my conscious and morals. It is hilarious!
