Blessing is Disguise by Henry Stephens

You never know the people you cross paths with unless you take the time time to find out. Regardless of where you are, whether it be school, church or prison the people we meet can result in a positive or negative experience. Yet the only way to know is to communicate with them. I’m saying this because of the situation I am currently going through. I was raised in a 2 parent household with loving parents In the suburbs with everything a kid could ask for growing up. Then, 4 years ago when I was 21 my mother brings to my attention that there is a strong possibility that the man who tought me everything, who was always there for me in crisis, may not be my biological father. This was a complete shock to me and took my by surprise. Mixed emotions of hatred, anger and hurt cycled through me. I felt betrayed by my mother and quickly forgave her. I figured at the end of the day, the man who showed me the ropes and put a roof over my head and clothes on my back is dad and he always will be. So I kept on moving like and neglected the reality of the situation. Fast forward and now I am in prison, my dad reaches out to the guy without telling me and next thing you know a stranger has signed up to my jpay. I was angry for the moment. Then my eyes were opened up by an individual in here with me. Who am I to deny this guy who I never gave a chance to know anything about. It’s only fair to give the man a chance. So I reached out, and believe it or not, so far he seems to be good man and a positive influence which is something I surely need in a time like this. You see, in life we as people miss out on many opportunities because they take us out of our comfort zone. We are afraid of the unknown, and timid to take a chance. But that is what life is all about. Live to experience, take chances and see what comes of it. Sure they don’t always work out, but take what you can from the experience and learn from it so you can apply it later on in life. You see, Helen Keller stated that “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” I stand by those words. Enjoy the journey. Cherish the moment in time. That’s all we can do. Remember, you never know what is through that door until we walk through it. It may just be a blessing in disguise.

  1. That is a big deal, you were entitled to feel a lot of pain and confusion about it. But hope you end up with two good men in your life! I commend you for being open to this big change of direction in your life.
