INMATE POEMS

Prayers For The New Year by Timothy Elkins

Come this new year, come what may
Were it fortune, were it debt
With thanksgiving this we pray:
All that heals us Jesus let

May a gift at any cost
Turn about new charity
The giver wane of pain and loss
And stature gain on bended knee

May our enemies be fed
That fiery coals upon their heads
Burn to ashes in our love
Forgiven as would God above

May we twice bless every curse
And make for better what were worse
That from our hearts in deed and speech
We outward bleed Thy holy verse

May with us always abide
The promises You true expound
And grant us, Lord, at eventide
The peace to keep us heavenbound
