THE GOOD OLE DAYS IN PRISON

Share

I’m always suspicious when someone in here waxes nostaglic about the “good ole days.” I was in a tough prison in the nineties, a prison that conforms more to what many people on the outside think of as prison. And I suppose for some people, those days WERE good. If you were strong. If you were a bully, or part of a gang. If you wanted drugs or a lot of freedom to steal and intimidate. Because that’s the truth of the “good ole days:” They were good for people who deal in force. But for those of us who want something more out of life, who use our minds, who want to see prisoners improve and educate themselves, they were NOT good. And I’m glad they’re over.
