At least there is finally going to be some action on the absurdity of the Confederate flag being displayed above the capitol building in South Carolina. Finally. For all those southern conservatives who think your heritage is being attacked, honestly, grow up. You can still fly your symbol of racism on your property all you want and no one is going to stop you (though we might criticize it). Just keep it away from government buildings and tax-payer-funded places. The state of South Carolina belongs to more people than just you. And as someone who grew up in the South (Georgia), I think it’s a little weird, to be frank, that people cling to this idea of Confederate heritage so strongly. This was not an era or a cause of which anyone should be proud. If Southerners want to be proud of something, celebrate LOSING the war and the changes it began to work in America’s opinions about race and liberty. That’s something worth glorifying.
