All of these opponents of drug legalization ask “penetrating” questions such as “Do you really think pot is harmless?” It’s ridiculous and beside the point. I don’t think any reasonable person thinks that pot is harmless. Obviously, if you inhale smoke into your lungs over and over, it’s not good for you. But this has nothing to do with whether it should be legal. Lots of dangerous things, MUCH MORE dangerous things are legal. Adults are allowed to do things that are bad for them. On the list of such things, marijuana is relatively harmless. And further, what exactly does making it illegal accomplish? It doesn’t stop people from smoking it; it just adds billions to dollars to law enforcement costs and gets people in trouble for doing something that should be there choice.
