The golden rule is, of course, a great idea. A very common sense one. But it’s funny that may Christians (or Jews) like to claim that it comes from their religion. In actuality, both Buddha and Confucious came up with similar ideas centuries earlier. The golden rule is a humanistic rule, based on reciprocal atruism, that phenomenon witnessed in every human culture on earth, as well as among many animals. There are evolutionary reasons and advantages to it, but the point is that it’s not inherently religious, and you definitely don’t need faith to appreciate it.
