A big part of rehabilitation (or, coming to view justice in the proper light) is the shedding of the groupthink that pervades this place. A couple years ago two kids tried to escape by stealing a forklift and taking an officer hostage. One was killed and one caught. And of course, the almost unanimous opinion in here was one of support for them. Why? Both of them had committed serious crimes and deserved to be doing years. We should not be rooting for the bad guys; we should be rooting for justice. I know it’s easy in this place to fall in with the group, have an “us-against-them” attitude, and stick to the “solid con” position. But that is precisely the type of mindset you have to avoid, if you want to be an individual who is reformed.
