I went to the dentist last week, which in prison generally involves a long, long waiting list, discomfort, disappointments, and other annoyances. And it’s easy to get into the frame of mind blaming people and being negative about these things; that attitude is endemic in here. But the dentist was perfectly kind and courteous, and answered any questions I had. And I think a good thing to keep in mind is that professionals who work here in prisons are often ridiculously overworked, with huge caseloads, probably underpaid, and they have to deal with a variety of terrible, sometimes even threatening attitudes. Let’s cut them a break, and thank them once in while. And stop feeling indignant whenever something doesn’t go our way. It’s PRISON. It’s not going to be fun or comfortable all the time. 🙂
