One of the counterintuitive things about doing time (at least it has been for me) is that in a way, it’s actually gotten harder over the years. I’ve been down 18 years, and have less than 2 left, but there are new challenges. Years ago, when I was young, being released wasn’t even realistic, it was so far away. So you never think about it, never imagine it. Now, it’s VERY real, and you think about it all the time. Also, the more I’ve changed, the closer I’ve come to the type of man I want to be, the more alone I feel in here, and the more ready I am to be out there.
