Earlier I was talking about an authority being a bad reason to believe something. Any authority: God, social, government, etc. I think this is especially the case for morality, for what is right and wrong. It’s important to discover and believe for ourselves what is right and wrong, and why it is so. Not only does this put your moral sense in line with your convictions, but it’s good exercise for the brain. It forces you to think. For me, it was one more step on the path of education and enlightenment: the ability to use my own mind to figure out whatever needs to be figured out.
